HANOI, May 3 (Xinhua) -- A total of 125 road accidents occurred across Vietnam during the holiday between Saturday and Tuesday, killing 98 people and injuring 90 others.
According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety on Wednesday, the figures represented respective drops of 17.8 percent, 11.7 percent and 34.8 percent year-on-year.
Vietnam celebrated a four-day holiday starting from Saturday to Tuesday, including the Liberation Day and National Reunification, which falls on April 30 annually, and International Labor Day, which falls on May 1.
Khuat Viet Hung, the committee vice chairman, was quoted by Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA as saying that traffic police nationwide handled up to 23,790 road and waterway traffic safety violation cases, imposing fines of more than 11.5 billion Vietnamese dong (508,000 U.S. dollars), seizing 98 cars and around 3,600 motorbikes and revoking 1,012 driving licenses.
