Banteay Meanchey (FN), April 21 - Each day thousands of Cambodian workers enter Thailand through the Poipet and Banteay Meanchey border checkpoints in hopes of a better future.

Border police are known to collude with those entering illegally by collecting bribes from workers and then allowing them access to the corridors for them to cross.

Meanwhile, the brokers who entice the migrants collect a fee between 2,000 baht ($60) to 3000 baht ($90) from each worker.

On Thursday, the the task force charged with human trafficking and juvenile protection collaborated with the border police and prevented about 100 illegal workers from entering the country.

The authorities have advised workers to return home and asked brokers and drivers to sign a pledge disavowing the practice of smuggling people.
