Kompong Chhnang (FN), March 31- US Ambassador to Cambodia William A. Heidt told Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) that he had discussed with the Minister of Economy and Finance.
He told so when he visited CMAC's training center in Kompong Speu on Friday.
“I discussed this debt issue with the Minister of Economy and Finance face to face already because our workplace is close to each other. I understand the concerns (debt), but for today, we are here to discuss the cooperation on the clearance of unexploded ammunition,” said the ambassador.
William A. Heidt, however, did not elaborate the result of the debt discussions between the Minister of Economy and Finance.
Ambassador and senior minister Serei Kosal, who serves as First Vice President of Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) presided over graduation ceremony of the CMAC’s trainees.
Bilateral talk was held between the Ambassador and CMAC’s Director-General Heng Ratana relating to demining in Cambodia.
CMAC generally dismantles MK82s and other ordnance dropped by U.S Air Forces. These bombs threatened people's lives and safety.
The US bombing campaign in Cambodia lasted from 1963-1975.
Further data confirms 2 to 8 million tons of bombs were dropped on Cambodia with the intent to deter Vietnamese aggressors.
Unfortunately, 500,000 Cambodian civilians were inadvertently killed as well. The bomb also destroyed people’s homes and infrastructure as well.
