Phnom Penh (FN), March 31 – According to a report from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) released on Friday morning, Cambodia’s telecommunication sector grew during 2016. The sector achieved a profit of $1 million, a huge leap compared to 2015, in which it lost $750,000.
The income sources are from Voice Over IP (VoIP) services, fiber optics and internet, as well as local and international calls.
“Telecommunications and information technology in Cambodia has been developing substantially,” stated Tram Ivtek, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications at the MPT’s congress which was held to review the work in 2016 and set new goals for 2017.
“Our services bring a lot of benefits to the users,” he reiterated.
Currently, there are 30 small internet companies and 3 big companies – Smart, Cellcard, and Metfone.
