Phnom Penh (FN), Mar 31 - The Phnom Penh Court of Appeals will hear the Kem Sok's case on Friday afternoon at 2:30 P.M.

The case was sent to the Appeals Court after the Phnom Penh Municipal Court refused to hear the case.

Prime Minister Hun Sen’s lawyer submitted the case to the Municipal Court on February 13, 2017 under allegations that Kem Sok had accused the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) of murdering Kem Ley, a well-known political analyst, without evidence.

The hearing would effectively place the defendant (Kem Sok) face-to-face with the plaintiff (the premier) in court.

The plaintiff is seeking $500,00 USD in compensation.

Kem Sok is also facing additional charges stemming from allegations he made stating that the CPP had established a government that could murder at will without facing repercushions.

That lawsuit is seeking an additional $2,500 in damages.

The second lawsuit was filed after a statement Kem Sok made during a live radio station on Feb. 13 in which he said, "This refers to the system … a system under this government to murder people in which the murderer is never to be found including Kem Ley and other activists ….”
