Phnom Penh (FN), March 31 – During 2016 2,998 foreigners, most of whom were Vietnamese, have been deported.

The Immigration police, with the aid of capital and provincial authorities, are responsible for the arrests.

According to a report from the General Department of Immigration (GDI), the deportees represented 50 nationalities. Among the 2,998 arrested, 1,632 were Vietnamese, 330 were Chinese, 46 were Taiwanese, 24 were Nigerian, 22 were Indian, 19 were Russian, 17 were English, and 16 were from the U.S.”

GDI under the Ministry of Interior held a congress on Friday morning to review the work in 2016 and organize new strategies for 2017.

The conference was led by the GDI’s Director-General, Sok Phal, with the participation of police officers from across the country.
