BANGKOK, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Thailand plans to show unique culture of different parts of the country in the coming celebration of Songkran, or New Year for several countries in this region, according to a news release by the tourism authority on Thursday.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is going to hold a 6-day event in the capital Bangkok's Benjasiri Park from April 8, in which visitors can experience Buddhist rituals, diversified culture of 5 regions of the kingdom, taste snacks and watch Thai boxing and a beauty pageant.
A float parade will be held on April 8 along the downtown Sukhumvit Road. The parade will show not only culture of different regions of Thailand but also Songkran related culture of Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
Annually, during the 3-day celebration in Bangkok, Khaosan Road and Silom Road will be turned into an almighty water fight with stage events.
But this year, there might not have any stage events as usual in Khaosan Road as the country is still in the mourning period of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Besides Bangkok, the tourism authority also supports celebration events in 14 provinces across the country, such as Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Khon Kaen, etc. Some of the events will end on April 13, some will last till April 15, the last day of the new year holiday, while the one in Samut Prakarn will last till April 23.
According to the tourism authority, they want to enhance the image of Thailand as a quality leisure destination for tourists by offering these celebration events.
