Phnom Penh (FN), March 30 – Prime Minister Hun Sen presided over the signing ceremony for grants and low-interest loans of approximately $140 million from Japan this Thursday afternoon.
The ceremony was joined by Hidehisa Horinouchi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Economy, Aun Porn Moniroth.
According to the press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, financial assistance and low-interest loans over $140 million will be spent on four main sectors including flood prevention, roads construction, hospital building, and expansion of clean water supply system.
The first part of the grant is for improving Battambang referral hospital including buildings and medical equipment.
Secondly, to improve flood protection in Phnom Penh.
Thirdly, to expand clean water supply system.
Last, the loan will pay for the renovation of the national road number 5 (Battambang -Sisophon), which is the ASEAN Highway and the international gateway.
Japan is the major development partners of Cambodia.
Japan has contributed to socio-economic development and infrastructure after Cambodia ended war in the 1990s .
The above projects are expected to help improve Cambodia’s connectivity and to improve the livelihoods of Cambodian people.
