Phnom Penh (FN), March 30 – U.S Ambassador to Cambodia William A. Heidt will take a study tour to Cambodia Mine Action Center (CMAC)’s Training Center on Friday in Kompong Chhnang, approximately 90km north of Phnom Penh.

According to CMAC’s official, the ambassador will learn about the mine clearance projects supported by the U.S through several NGOs.

Ambassador and senior minister Serei Kosal, who serves as First Vice President of Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), will preside over graduation ceremony of the CMAC’s trainees.

Bilateral talks between the Ambassador and  CMAC’s Director-General Heng Ratana relating to demining in Cambodia are planned.

CMAC generally dismantles MK82s and other ordnance dropped by U.S Air Forces. These bombs threatened people's lives and safety.

The US bombing campaign in Cambodia lasted from 1963-1975.

Further data confirms  2 to 8 million tons of bombs were dropped on Cambodia with the intent to deter Vietnamese aggressors.

Unfortunately, 500,000 Cambodian civilians were inadvertently killed as well. The bomb also destroyed people’s homes and infrastructure as well.
