RAMALLAH, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday welcomed the U.S. efforts aiming at making just and comprehensive peace with Israel.

Abbas made the remarks at a joint press conference here with chairman of the rotating presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mladen Ivanic.

"This month, we have a series of contacts with the U.S. administration, and I received an invitation from President Donald Trump to visit the White House," said Abbas, adding that a specific date for the visit will be decided later.

Abbas also mentioned recent visit of Jason Greenblatt, the special U.S. envoy, saying that he came for further exchange of ideas and also met with other Palestinian officials.

The 82-year-old president expressed hope that the international community and the U.S. efforts "would lead to the two-state solution, and Israel and Palestine living side-by-side in a secure and recognized borders."

He also said that the Palestinian issue will top the agenda of the impending Arab Summit scheduled for the end of March in Jordan's capital Amman.

For his part, Ivanic told reporters that his country supports the right of Palestine to exist as well as the two-state solution, adding that his country exerts its utmost effort to back the Palestinians.
