JAKARTA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- A senior executive of Japan's prominent carmaker Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) reaffirmed the firm's commitment to further boost its investment in Indonesia during a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo here on Monday.
The meeting between TMC president Akio Toyoda and President Widodo took place earlier in the day at the presidential palace.
An executive of Toyota subsidiary in Indonesia said Toyoda's meeting with Widodo was a reprisal visit to the latter's visit in TMC headquarters in Nagoya.
"In 2015, President Widodo visited Toyota in Japan, today we conveyed reports over Toyota's commitment in Indonesia," Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) President Director Deputy Warih Andang Tjahjono said on the sidelines of the meeting.
Among Toyota's commitments conveyed to Widodo were to expand its investments, export and activities to further improve the skills of mechanics in Indonesia, he said, adding that all of the commitments were expected to further enhance Indonesia's automotive industry.
Warih said in a statement that the government would support and assist Toyota's to expand its investment in the country so as to assure it can be well-implemented.
"President Widodo also asked Japanese firms, other than Toyota, to invest more in Indonesia," he added.
According to Warih, Toyota has expanded its investments in Indonesia by building more production facilities, designing new car models in the country in the last two years.
Besides that, Toyota's Indonesian subsidiary would implement apprenticeship program for the youth this year, he added.
According to the data released by the Indonesian industry ministry, TMC has planned to expand its facilities up to 20 trillion rupiah (about 1.4 billion U.S. dollars) from 2015 to 2019.
As of 2014, TMC's investment in Indonesia was recorded at around 40 trillion rupiah (about 2.9 billion U.S. dollars), according to the ministry.
Toyota produces cars and spare parts for Indonesia's domestic market and for export to several countries.
