Phnom Penh (FN), March 8 – Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife, Bun Rany Hun Sen, presided over the commemoration of International Women’s Right Day held at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center.
On the 106th commemoration of Women's Day, under the theme “Women for Peace and Development”, the premier supported the value of women in maintaining social order and development. The theme also underscored the fact that without peace, Cambodia would not progress.
Cambodia has sent 4,177 peacekeeping forces under UN Mission to many countries around the globe since 2006. Among those forces, 151 were female, an equivalent to 3% of the total force.
The premier added that the government has increased wages for garment workers, provides vocational training to women, and fights against the exploitation and trafficking of women and girls.
The premier encouraged women to seek candidacies in major positions of both civil and defense sectors, and urged women to advance their positions from deputy governors to provincial governors.
In the meantime, the premier reiterated the importance of experience and education as women work to enhance their capacities in those positions.
