DIXVILLE NOTCH, United States, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Six voters in the tiny New Hampshire town of Dixville Notch cast their ballots just after midnight, kicking off the quadrennial U.S. presidential elections on Tuesday.

Clay Smith was decided by traditional drawing lottery to be the first to vote in the tiny town, also the first to vote in the presidential elections.

Their vote in the northeast corner of the U.S. state of New Hampshire started the day-long polling in the U.S. presidential elections as they gathered here at 0000 EST (0500 GMT) on Tuesday to cast their votes for a new president.

Midnight voting in the first-in-the-nation presidential elections takes place in Dixville Notch, despite major renovations underway at the now-crumbling Balsams Grand Resort Hotel, the traditional balloting place, which was closed in 2011.

The other parts of the United States will mostly begin the voting on Tuesday morning.
