JAKARTA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have recovered bodies of four crews onboard an ill-fated cargo plane from a mountainous terrain in Indonesia's easternmost province of Papua on Tuesday.

Wreckage of the plane was found in a slope of Papua's Jayawijaya mountain at an elevation of 12,000 feet (about 3,660 meters), head of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency Henry Bambang Soelistyo said.

The bodies were descended with a helicopter to Mozes Kilangin airport in Papua's Timika regency and being transported to Mimika regional hospital to undergo identification process later on, local media reported.

The crashed DHC-4 Caribou cargo plane was reported to have lost contact on late Sunday during its flight from Timika to remote area of Illaga, declared missing by Indonesian authorities on Monday.

The province saw frequent plane crashes due to its extreme changeable weather condition, put planes in danger to fly on mountainous terrain.

With its mountainous geographical condition, plane is the only reliable vehicle to transport people and goods across the province.

The province saw deadly plane crash in August last year that claimed 54 lives of passengers and crews onboard flight 267 Trigana ATR 42-300.
