CHICAGO, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- An American Airlines plane caught fire Friday afternoon on a runway at O'Hare Airport in Chicago, the United States, local officials said.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesman Tony Molinaro said American Airlines Flight 383 departed Chicago for Miami on Friday afternoon when it blew a tire and damaged an engine, adding Molinaro said the pilot aborted takeoff and everyone evacuated.

Several people were injured, the severity of those injuries is not clear at this time, according to local news channel ABC7.
