HO CHI MINH CITY, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — A port in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City has continued to detect hundreds of elephant tusks hidden in timbers, the municipal customs authorities said Saturday.
Cutting timbers in two containers at Cat Lai Port in District 2 for checking, customs officers on Friday found many African elephant tusks and pangolin scales glued inside.
The smuggled tusks and pangolin, imported from Africa, are worth millions of U.S. dollars.
Earlier, on Oct. 7, the port's customs officers found over two tons of African elephant tusks worth of tens of millions of U.S. dollars hidden in timbers. To date, Vietnamese police have yet to find the owners of the smuggled tusks, because the declared importer is a bogus company.
