TOKYO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 rocked the Chiba prefecture in eastern Japan at 11:50 a.m. local time, Japan Meteorological Agency said Thursday.
The temblor was centered in the northeastern part of the Chiba prefecture, with the epicenter at a latitude of 35.9 degrees north and a longitude of 140.6 degrees east and at depth of 40 km.
The earthquake logged 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7 in some areas in Ibaraki prefecture and Chiba prefecture, and could be felt in Tokyo.
So far no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
