PARIS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — American reality TV star Kim Kardashian was held at gunpoint on midnight Monday and robbed of about 11 million U.S. dollars' worth of jewelry by men disguised as police officers in a hotel room here, French police said.
The 35-year-old celebrity and wife of rapper Kanye West was "badly shaken but physically unharmed" following the incident, which happened at around 3 a.m. local time (0100 GMT), a spokeswoman for Kardashian said.
Kardashian was staying at an apartment inside a luxury residence in the Madeleine district of central Paris.
Police said that five men dressed as policemen entered the building at 2:30 a.m.(0030 GMT), threatened the concierge with weapons and forced him to open the private apartment.
Bursting into Kardashian's room, two masked men tied her up and locked her in the bathroom, police said, adding that they robbed her of two cellphones, some cash and approximately 10 million euros' (about 11.3 million U.S. dollars') worth of jewelry, including a four-million-euro (4.5-million-dollar) ring.
The star's bodyguard was absent at the time, providing security for her sister Kourtney at a Paris nightclub.
Her husband Kanye West, who was playing at a New York music festival when the incident occurred, abruptly stopped his performance because of "a family emergency."
Kardashian left Paris immediately by private jet after being questioned by police about the robbery.
Their two children, 3-year-old North West and 9-month-old Saint West, were believed not to have been with Kardashian in Paris.
The raid during the Paris Fashion Week raised new concerns about the security conditions in the metropolis after a series of deadly terror attacks that have killed hundreds of people.
"What happened is very unfortunate and those responsible must be severely punished," French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault told French TV5 Monde.
"We are fully mobilized to ensure the safety of the French people, as well as all those who visit France, and in particular tourists," he said.
