PHNOM PENH (FN), September 13 – The national Army is already well-prepared to efficiently implement the order by Prime Minister Hun Sen to get rid of any attempt to cause instability and insecurity in the country, said Senior General Chhum Socheat, spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense.
The declaration by the Ministry of Defense came in the wake of an announcement by the Cambodian National Rescue Party after a meeting of the party’s steering committee yesterday that called on its supporters to prepare for a mass demonstration all cross the country to demand for a political solution to current situation and to object to the court’s conviction of the CNRP acting president Kem Sokha for refusing to appear in court.
“The army is fully ready to implement the order of the Prime Minister effectively and efficiently against any gathering or demonstration by CNRP that would cause harm to national security and social stability,” said Gen. Socheat.
In the meantime, the Body Guard Unit also declared readiness to implement the Prime Minister’s order and to crack down on any elements of CNRP deemed making trouble to the society. “There would be no green light for an uncontrolled mass demonstration by CNRP and we hold the rights to protect safety and security for the people the society. We are fully ready to take the order of the Prime Minister,” Senior General Hing Bun Heang, head of the body guard unit told Fresh News.
Also, commander of a military brigade known as ង ៧០, Gen. Mao Sophann, strongly warned against a mass demonstration by CNRP and declared its readiness to implement the order of the Prime Minister against the illegal protest.
“The brigade ង ៧០ would like to declare that it is ready to implement the order of the Prime Minister and would not allow any illegal demonstration to take place, in any circumstance, since it is illegal and would be a serious threat to the people ant to the nation,” Gen. Mao Sophann declared via Fresh News.
