SYDNEY, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — A 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted off Papua New Guinea on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake, which occurred at 0311 GMT, was centered 39 km east of Namatanai with a depth of 499 km, according to the USGS.
