SINGAPORE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — A total of 78 suspected drug offenders were arrested with drugs worth over 109,000 Singapore dollars (81,343 U.S. dollars) seized during a recent island-wide operation in Singapore, according to a statement from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on Friday.
A total of about 1 kg of cannabis, 690 g of heroin, 131 g of "Ice", as well as some other durgs including 905 Erimin-5 tablets, 76 "Ecstasy" tablets, ketamine and Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid (GHB) were seized. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is over 109,000 Singapore dollars (81,343 U.S. dollars), CNB said.
The operation was supported by the Singapore Police Force from Aug. 1 to 5.
Investigations into the drug activities of all the arrested persons are ongoing. The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15 g. 15 g of diamorphine is equivalent to 1, 250 straws, which is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 180 abusers for a week, CNB explained.
