Phnom Penh (FN), August 3 – After intervention from Cambodia’s Embassy in Malaysia, five out of 18 Cambodian workers imprisoned in Malaysia were finally set free by Malaysian authorities and set to return home this evening of August 3, 2016.
Malaysian authorities have sent the 18 Cambodians to Bukit Jalil prison, Kuala Lumpur, for a number of offenses. According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received by Fresh News this afternoon of August 3, 2016, the Malaysian authorities decided to release 18 Khmer detainees from Bukit Jalil prison.
The Embassy has approached the International Organization of Migration to seek their support for the air tickets for those people so that they can return home. As a result, five out of the18 will arrive at Phnom Penh International Airport this evening through MH762, the press release said.
