Phnom Penh (FN), August 2 – Eng Chhay Eang, deputy chairman of the Steering Committee of the Cambodian National Rescue Party said the opposition party would support the government’s political position vis-à-vis Cambodia’s independence and sovereignty with the concept that “Vietnam is not Cambodia’s master.”
Mr. Chhay Eang added that the Cambodian government’s political vision towards national independence and sovereignty in the sense that Vietnam is not the boss of Cambodia has been closely monitored and applauded by the people.
Mr. Chhay Eang, a senior member of the opposition party, made his remark today, August 2, 2016 in a public announcement at CNRP headquarters, in Phnom Penh.
“We notice that Cambodian people were interestingly surprised by the declared political stance of the head of government. Nevertheless, the people and even the opposition party keep closely following up with the development of the government’s political posture and if it is materialized, then both the people and the opposition party would just applause and support it,” said Chhay Eang.
In response to a comment made by a Facebook account owner named «Phạm Đức Hiển» on Sunday who said that “Mr. Hun Sen betrays Vietnam,” Prime Minister Hun Sen strongly wrote: “Is Vietnam my father? Is it my King? What I should be loyal to is my Cambodian nation and Vietnam is not my master to whom I should be loyal.”
