Phnom Penh (FN), June 29 – In a speech during the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Cambodia Customs and Excises on June 29, 2016, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Embassies in Cambodia should not perform like “a parrot” that would just imitate what the Cambodian opposition says.
“While I would like to say thank you to our friends here for joining this important event, may I also apologize what I am saying, since I just don’t want to see diplomats here in Cambodia becoming ‘a parrot’ that would only repeat what the opposition says,” said the premier.
“It would be good to maintain good relationship rather than repeating what have been said by a certain group that would only undermine relationship with Cambodia which is a sovereign country. Also the so-called threat of aid-cut and insult on Cambodia should not be used,” he added.
Prime Minister Hun Sen challenged the European Union to undertake two reforms in regard of information handling in Cambodia. The two reforms include information gathering and then analyzing those collected information based on facts and proper legal grounds.
