Phnom Penh (FN), June 28 – Senior officials of the Cambodian National Rescue Party left Cambodia today, June 28, 2016, for the Philippines to meet with the party’s president Sam Rainsy after which an urgent meeting of the party’s steering committee will be held, according to Yem Ponharith, CNRP’s spokesperson.
The group includes many CNRP officials and is led by Pol Ham. However, it does not include the party’s deputy president Kem Sokha who is facing legal actions and just stays inside the party’s headquarters.
Some political analysts have posed a question of “whether such an important meeting and discussions with the party’s leader will include something to be hidden from the party’s vice president Kem Sokha who is just hiding in the party’s headquarters in Phnom Penh?”
“The delegation led by H.E. Pol Ham and included H.E., Mrs. Mu Sochua, H.E. Eng Chhay Eang, H.E. Yim Sovann, and H.E. Ou Chanrith, departed Phnom Penh on June 28, 2016, for Manila, Philippines to meet with the party’s president Sam Rainsy and is scheduled to return on June 30, 2016. The steering committee of the CNRP will hold a meeting on July 1, 2016, at 1 pm, just after the return of the delegation,” Yem Ponharith said in a daily conference at the party’s headquarters.
