Phnom Penh (FN), June 28 – Once again Prime Minister Hun Sen sent a message today, June 28, 2016, to opposition leaders who are facing legal actions not to turn the illegal personal affairs into a pressure imposed on the judiciary. The premier called the acts as insults on the people, the state institutions and hazardous to the nation.
In his address during the celebration of the 65th Anniversary of the Cambodian People’s Party this morning of June 28, 2016, the premier did not mention the opposition leaders by names. However, it was understood as an implicit reference to Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha respectively president and vice president of the Cambodian National Rescue Party who are facing different legal actions and are seeking foreign intervention for them to get away from the court’s actions.
“No political party, no social organization or any individual, regardless of what position or he or she holds, can stay outside the laws. Those who have made wrongdoings, either a physical person or a legal person, shall be punished according to the laws since Cambodia is a rule of law and full sovereign country,” said the premier.
“One should not turn personal illegal affairs into political pressure imposed on the judiciary. Such an act constitutes an insult on the people, state institutions and is hazardous to the nation,” he added.
The Cambodian People’s Party and government leader also called on certain countries once again to find out about the truth in Cambodia and to support the implementation of the rule of law in the country and to respect Cambodia’s sovereignty.
