Phnom Penh (FN), June 13 – During the graduation ceremony of Royal University of Phnom Penh this morning of June 13, 2016, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that the aid cut by the European countries will not affect the Royal Government of Cambodia, but it will primarily and fatally affect NGOs.
In a harsh reaction to a number of countries that tend to threaten the government with aid-cut, the premier said he was not worried because there are still the Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and Silk Road Funds. He went as far as to challenge those countries to cut the aids, saying that it is not the government to suffer, but NGOs would be the first to suffer the cut.
Stressing that most of the aids do not come to the government, the premier said “Please, other countries do not threaten Cambodia with the cut! If you do, those who suffer first would be the NGOs that depend on foreign aids! So, please don’t threaten us!”
“We have the Asian Development Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank along with the Chiang Mai Initiative which adds up a total amount of $400 billion; hence, it is safe for developing countries in Asia”, said the premier.
