Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 4 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Sunday that counterfeit medicine is a masked murderer of people in remote areas as this medicine is not only ineffective in treatment, but also harms consumers.

His remarks was made when receiving a courtesy call from Jean-David, the president of the board of directors of the International Institute of Research Against Counterfeit Medicines (IRACM).

The premier expressed concerns over the circulation of counterfeit medicines in Cambodia and other developing countries, while Jean David arrived Cambodia for the first International Conference on "Combating Falsified and Substandard Medicine" from 5-6 November 2018.

Jean-David also highlighted the history of the creation of a regional conference, thanked to Prime Minister Hun Sen's initiative back in 2016.

David said that the commission and working groups were reviewing the announcement of Phnom Penh Capital City and the progress on anti-trafficking of counterfeit medicine.

He also expressed his thoughts on expanding the scope of this regional conference, not only to the Mekong region, but also to other countries and that was supported and applauded by Prime Minister Hun Sen.
