Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 1 - Cambodian People's Party spokesman Sok Eysan said Thursday that Inter-Parliamentary Union's Human Rights Commission is a political and ideological organization serving foreign policy, and that Cambodia, an independent nation, will not follow the order of IPU.
The ruling party's reaction came after the IPU's Director of Communications raised recently that the IPU's move against Cambodia should not be interpreted as "internal interference"; IPU just observed the "violation" of the rights of lawmakers and demanding for “promoting rights” in Cambodia.
"IPU is just a political and ideological organization; the legitimate Royal Government of Cambodia, which was born from free and independent election with absolute sovereignty, will not follow the order of IPU," he argued.
The spokesman added that the IPU issued a resolution on 18 October 2018 urging Cambodian government to restore democracy; to immediately release of former opposition leader Kem Sokha; and to reinstate the opposition party, which Cambodian delegations to IPU denied.
