Seoul (FN), Oct. 26 - The delegation of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts led by H.E Ms. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, and representatives of Apsara Authority, participated in the workshop on the “Achievements and Prospects of the Conservation and Restoration Project of the Preah Pithu temple group in Angkor Complex”, hosted by Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation (KCHF) on 26 October 2018, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The workshop was presided over by Long Dimanche, Cambodian ambassador to South Korea, the Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation, and the Korean International Cooperation Agency.

Jin OK-Sub, chairman of KCHF, said that Korea's most proudest thing was to help restore the heritage of Cambodia, and promote the success to Korean people.

Ms. Phoung Sakona thanked KCHF, Korean Agency for International Development, KOICA, and the Korean Cultural Heritage Management Authority for the technical and budget cooperation for the conservation of Preah Pithu temple.

The workshop also featured two key presentations by the leaders of APSARA Authority on the topic of Water Management and Tourism Development at Angkor Resort. The experts on Preah Pithu temple also presented archeology, architecture, art, history, and conservation works.

The preservation scheme of Preah Pithu’s group was first started in 2015 by the Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Korean International Cooperation Agency and set to complete by late 2018.

This temple was built in the first half of the 12th century (parts of the 13th century) by Suryavarman II (reigned 1113-1150). It is dedicated to Hindu religion (dedicated to Shiva) with the art style of Angkor Wat.
