Kratie (FN), Oct. 20 - As of Saturday afternoon, at least five people, one female, died and 78 others were sent to hospital after consuming rice wine, according to health ministry’s spokesman Ly Sovann.

The spokesman said that 42 among the 78 has been treated, and that today’s victims are from three different villages.

Sombo district’s authority reported that a group of people were celebrating after work on Thursday night. Upon consuming the local rice wine, victims began to suffocate.

The authority urged citizens to immediately stop consuming rice wine, ban the sale and distribution, and close the shops.
