Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 8 - Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia requested Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to continue supporting Cambodian national elections in the next mandate, speaking to his Japanese counterpart in a joint press conference at the Council of Ministers' Office in Tokyo, Japan.

In fact, Cambodia is processing voter registration as a continued process of democracy.

The premier thanked Abe and is delighted to visit Japan again on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Cambodia-Japan diplomatic ties. He underlined that the relationship between the two countries are significantly important.

During his visit to Japan, Prime Minister Hun Sen and Abe discussed in depth the international relations, regional and international challenges.

Strongman of Cambodia said he was pleased for the invitation Abe extended to young people from political parties and judicial bodies to visit Japan to learn about democracy in Japan.

Prime Minister also thanked the Japanese government for supporting Cambodia to be host of the Asia-Europe Summit 2020. He hopes that Cambodia will be approved to be the Summit in the near future.

Prime Minister and his delegation departed Cambodia Saturday morning for the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit from 6-10 October 2018 in Tokyo, Japan, at the invitation of the Government of Japan, according to foreign affairs ministry’s press release dated on 4 October 2018.

The 10th Mekong-Japan Summit will deliberate and adopt the New Tokyo Strategy, which aims at enhancing connectivity, improving the well-being of people and protecting the environment. The Strategy attaches importance on sustainable development and narrowing the development gap between the Mekong Countries and other ASEAN member countries.
