Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 3 – Investigating judge Im Vannak decided to detain the ringleader of the eight arms traffickers who was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Preah Vihear province, senior court official told Fresh News Wednesday night.
Bun Proser, nicknamed Thongdy, 44, was charged of appointing armed group and conspiring with weapons, a violation of Cambodian criminal code.
Police, on Tuesday, confiscated from him one handgun, one long-gun, and explosive devices and materials.
It is worth noting that the other eight Cambodian illegal armed traffickers, who planned to cause social disorder that would lead to the toppling of government under the leadership of the above defendant, were arrested late September and ordered to jail on Monday.
Anti-terrorism and transnational crime department of national commissariat in collaboration with Kampot and Pursat police force arrested eight people and confiscated 28 of AK-47 rifles; they were jailed on Monday, charged with “illegal armed trafficking”, according to Director of Phnom Penh municipal court Taing Sunlay on Tuesday morning.
On 26 September 2018, police arrested four people and confiscated 25 of AK-47 assault rifles in Phnom Penh’s Preaek Pnov District.
On 28 September, police arrested another four and confiscated 3 AK-47 in Kampot and Pursat provinces, according to Kampot and Pursat police commissioner Mao Chanmaturith and Sarun Chanthy respectively.
