JAKARTA, Oct. 3 (CGTN) -- Just days after a deadly 7.5-magnitude quake and subsequent tsunami, a volcano has erupted in northern part of Sulawesi Island.
The ash of the erupted Mount Soputan headed westward and northwestward of the crater, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho spokesman of the National Disaster Management Agency.
As per the agency, over 1,234 people have been killed so far in the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck the island on September 28.
Rescue operations continue in search for survivors buried under the rubble. Over 400 injured are facing shortage of necessary supplies in the region.
