UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that China has upheld the international order and pursued multilateralism all along.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Wang said that China has never wavered in its conviction in multilateralism and its adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, although the country was once kept out of the United Nations for 22 years.

He said the negotiations on China's return to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and then accession to the World Trade Organization lasted 15 years and inflicted a cost on the country, but China fulfilled all its commitments and integrated itself into the world economic system.

After the international financial crisis broke out, Wang said, China chose not to stand idly by but to work together with other countries to tide over the rough times.

For years running, China has contributed over 30 percent of global economic growth, playing its part in facilitating global economic recovery, he added.

In the face of new developments and severe challenges, China will stick to its commitments and remain a champion of multilateralism, pursue win-win cooperation, act upon rules and order, uphold fairness and justice, and act to deliver real results, said Wang.
