Phnom Penh (FN), May 24 – After the Royal Government of Cambodia (RCG) has set the date for the 4th Commune Council Elections, both government official and the opposition’s party leader Sam Rainsy have called on all citizens to be ready to vote for their local representatives from the parties they support.
Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on May 24, 2016 that Sunday June 4, 2017 will be the date for the 4th Commune Council Elections.
Immediately after the announcement, Mr. Sam Rainsy, on his Facebook Page, expressed his support and called on eligible voters to be prepared for the elections.
“Cambodia will hold elections for commune councils for the fourth term on Sunday 4 June 2017, so please brothers, sisters be prepared for it as soon as from now on,” said Sam Rainsy who also reminded people to get their names registered and to make sure that they have proper Cambodian national identity cards to be eligible to vote.
At the same time, Council of Ministers’ spokesperson Phay Siphan, apart from urging the people to get registered and be ready with adequate documents to be eligible to vote, also encouraged citizens to choose those leaders who serve people’s interests, stay with the people and are knowledgeable and capable of helping out their constituents.
