Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 27 - Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon on Thursday said that United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided more than $23 million to support aquaculture in Cambodia.

The announcement was made at the National Public-Private Dialogue on “Horticulture and Cashew Sub-Sectors” forum at Raffles Le Royal Phnom Penh Hotel, attended by William A. Heidt, Ambassador of the United States to Cambodia, Carin Salerno, Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and private sector development partners and the agricultural community.

"I would like to express my profound gratitude to USDA for supporting the agriculture sector with a total budget of more than $23 million,” said Veng Sakhon.

"I meet with representatives of the United States, the European Union, and Switzerland, and they all pledged to continue to support Cambodian development,” he added.

He said that the forum aimed to enhance productivity and diversification of agro-industries and inputs for future strategic development of horticulture and cashew sub-sectors.

Ministry of Agriculture has been working to strengthen cooperation with development partners and donor countries on financial and technical support to promote horticulture and cashew productivity, quality, and safety to meet international standards for domestic and international markets.
