CARACAS, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela on Wednesday declared its most "energetic rejection" to the "warmongering and meddling" declarations made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a news release, the Venezuelan foreign ministry said the recent statements by the U.S. president are "meant to incite a military insurrection in the country."
On Tuesday, Trump said the Maduro administration could "quickly" be toppled if the military chose to do so.
And on Wednesday, Trump said he was open to meeting Maduro, and "all options are on the table, all of them, from the powerful to the less powerful" in regard to Venezuela.
"And you know what I mean by powerful," Trump said.
In response, the Venezuelan government said, "these declarations are not an isolated statement, they are part of a larger stream of threats of military intervention in Venezuela."
Washington's actions show "tendencies to create a regional conflict of unprecedented proportions" in the region, it said.
Denouncing the statements, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino said that Trump "brazenly promotes a military coup against a legitimate government."
"Trump doesn't understand the elements of international rights and the principle of self-determination," he said.
Trump said in August last year that he would not rule out a "military option" in Venezuela "if necessary," despite his aides' opposition.
The U.S. side has also announced several rounds of sanctions against Venezuelan government officials since then.
Oil-producing Venezuela has been struggling with an acute economic crisis since crude oil prices slumped in the international market.
In August the United Nations said that 2.3 million people have fled Venezuela, mainly to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.
