CARACAS, Sept. 25 (CGTN) -- The United States imposed new sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's wife and several of his top allies, the US Treasury announced on Tuesday.
The measure sanctioned six officials in Maduro's "inner circle," including Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, and "blocked" a 20 million US dollar private jet identified as belonging to a front-man of president of Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly (ANC) Diosdado Cabello.
The sanctions would freeze any assets that a blacklisted person holds under US jurisdiction and bans any US individuals or companies from making business transactions with them.
The United States has been stepping up pressure on the south American country by imposing a string of sanctions, including ones on Maduro himself and the senior officials.
Venezuela has said it does not recognize any sanctions imposed on the country without UN authorization.
Maduro has said that he is a victim of an "economic war" led by US-backed adversaries, and offered words of support for the sanctioned officials who joined him during an event broadcast on state television.
