Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 15 - Cambodian Ministry of Tourism Thong Khon on Saturday said that Cambodia received 3,455,716 international tourists within seven months of 2018, an increase of over 11% compared to the same period in 2017.
Cambodia earned $3.6 billion in revenue from international tourists, an increase of 13.3%. Tourism sector contributed about 12.3% of Cambodia's GDP and represented about 30% of the service sector in Cambodia. In addition, the tourism sector generated more than 600,000 direct jobs and tens of thousands of indirect jobs.
The Ministry of Tourism planned to receive about 6.2 million international tourists in 2018; 7 million in 2020; 10 million international tourists in 2025; and 14 million international tourists in 2030.
The prepared major events in 2018, including the World Tourism Day (WTD) to be held on 27 September; Cambodia Travel Mart (CTM) to be held on 11-13 October in Phnom Penh; Water Festival on 21-23 November; Half-marathon on 2 December in Siem Reap; the Sea Festival on 14-18 December in Koh Kong province, and the 20th anniversary of the win-win policy on 29 December at the Win-Win Palace in Phnom Penh.
