Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 29 - As India had sent a large group to observe Cambodian general election 2018, Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj praised Cambodian July’s election process as free, fair, and non-violent.

In a courtesy call with Prime Minister Hun Sen at Peace Palace on Wednesday, she congratulated Cambodian People's Party (CPP) over the victory of general election 2018.

Sushma Swaraj told Prime Minister Hun Sen that people voted to support CPP as a gratitude for the Cambodia's rapid economic growth, according to Eang Sophalleth, personal secretary of the premier.

Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his appreciation to Sushma for visiting Cambodia and congratulating the results of the Cambodian elections.

The premier informed her the election process and the history of Cambodian elections.

At least 83% of registered voters turned out to vote at the 6th mandate National Assembly member election. The National Election Committee said CPP won 4,889,113 votes of the total 6,362,241 valid votes, taking all the 125 seats in the National Assembly.

The premier also thanked the Indian Government for its continued support to Cambodia through donations, especially when Cambodia was liberated from Pol Pot genocidal regime, and that India was the first democratic country to recognise Cambodia.

Sushma informed the premier the plan to launch direct flights from India to Cambodia and the quick-result project.

The premier warmly welcomed the initiatives and he hoped that the projects will assist clean water and agriculture sectors, schools and hospitals renovation that are helpful for flood victims.
