Phnom Penh (FN), August 29 – Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Sushma Swaraj highly commended Prime Minister’s Hun Sen’s initiative to establish “Supreme Council of Consultations – SCC”.

The commend was made during a bilateral meeting with Cambodian Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn at the ministry on Wednesday.

“SCC provides opportunity to other political parties to contribute to Royal Government’s affairs and decisions,” said Sushma Swaraj.

Sushma Swaraj also praised Cambodian electoral process with high voter turnout which reflected Cambodian people’s decision to maintain peace, according to the ministry’s spokesman Ket Sophann.

Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn highlighted in the meeting the series of releases of Cambodian politicians, political analyst, land activists, and journalists detained in 2016 and 2017. The releases truly reflected the national unity spirit of the premier, he told Sushma.

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Hun Sen’s initiative on SCC aims to exchange ideas among the 16 political parties to bring about the best policies for the national development.

“SCC will reflect our unity and solidarity in accordance with democracy,” the premier underlined.

Indian Minister of External Affairs pays an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 28 to 30 August 2018 to hold bilateral talks with Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn on a wide range of issues concerning bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international matters of common interest. She will pay courtesy calls on Senate President Say Chhum, and Prime Minister Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
