Phnom Penh (FN), August 22 – Mark Field, British Minister of State for Asia and Pacific, supported Cambodia’s Supreme Council of Consultations – SCC, initiated by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on 21 August 2018.

Mark considered SCC a spirit of national unity speaking in a courtesy call on Cambodian Foreign Affairs Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn at the ministry in Phnom Penh on Wednesday, according to the spokesman Ket Sophann.

Mark has learnt that Cambodia has been through bitter history in Vietnam War, Pol Pot Regime, and other civil wars. For these reasons, UK announced to support Cambodia that will lead to a bright future.

Mark supported SCC that gather all the political parties to exchange ideas and that he hoped SCC will proceed positively and the spirit of unity will continue, said the spokesman.

Prime Minister Hun Sen’s initiative on SCC aims to exchange ideas among the 16 political parties to bring about the best policies for the national development.

“SCC will reflect our unity and solidarity in accordance with democracy,” the premier underlined.

According to the government’s spokesman Phay Siphan, SCC’s secretariat and meeting places are based at the Peace Palace. Each party appointed two representatives be the delegation to the SCC; chairman of SCC is shuffled once a month based on political party order on voting list.

SCC holds internal meeting once a month summoned by the chair, and holds meeting with Prime Minister once every six months. Other meetings are compulsory by calls of the premier. SCC’s term will end based on the Royal Government mandate.
