Phnom Penh (FN), August 17 - Cambodian political analyst Kim Sok was released on Friday morning, senior court official told Fresh News earlier.
Kim Sok was detained by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court at Prey Sar prison, not too far from the Killing Fields. On March 2017, he was charged of accusing the ruling party as the man behind the murder of Cambodian political commentator Kem Ley, who was shot dead on July 10, 2016 at a convenience store in Phnom Penh.
Kim was charged of incitement and defamation according to article 494, 495 and 305 of Criminal Law. In addition to serving his prison term, Kim also had to compensate $200,000 to the plaintiff and $2,000 to the state, following a lawsuit by Ky Tech, premier’s lawyer.
