Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 16 - Cambodian People's Party (CPP) spokesman Suos Yara stated that the Royal Government of Cambodia of the 6th mandate, led by CPP, is not concerned by the threat of cutting preferential tariff by some countries fueled by unfortunate politicians, speaking on Thursday morning at the press conference in Phnom Penh.

Cutting preferential tariff is a negative sum game. It does not only harm Cambodia, but also the US and EU, for they have imported Cambodian goods with cheap price under preferential tariff.

"Threatening to impose trade sanction against Cambodia is just a propaganda of some Western politicians. To understand simply, a trade is a balance scale; the trade goes up and down […] not only Cambodia would lose benefits but also the US and EU,” said the spokesman adding that “they imported good with cheap price from Cambodia.”

He said preferential scheme will be cut at the end of the day, for Cambodia had been moving out of poverty line to the lower middle-income to higher middle-income country.

In the official results of July's elections, the National Election Committee said the CPP won 4,889,113 votes of the total 6,362,241 valid votes, taking all the 125 seats in the National Assembly.

Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on 8 August 2018 that the first session of National Assembly will be held on 5th September 2018, presided over by Cambodian King, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, and the new government will be established on the following day.
