Phnom Penh (FN), August 14 - Hong Lim, an ethnic Cambodian member of Australia's Victoria state legislative assembly, called former opposition leader Sam Rainsy a failure of the movement, speaking in an interview with Radio Free Asia (RFA) on Sunday on the topic “advocating foreign countries not to support Cambodian national election 2018”.

Hong advised Rainsy, who has made many mistakes in leading the movement, to step down and hand over his position to Kem Monovithya, the daughter of Kem Sokha, leader of Cambodia's dissolved opposition party.

"It is at a stage that we all recognize who has failed to lead the movement. You [Rainsy] have failed the movement, thus shall step down and be replaced by fresh blood, new energy, and new ideas,” Hong said in an interview, adding that “You have made many mistakes to the nation. You shall step down and pass your flag to the new generation to forward.”

Besides criticizing Sam Rainsy, Hong Lim said that Kem Monovithya is recognized and supported by many foreign leaders like Australia, Europe, Japan and the United States.

“Many people in Australia support Kem Monovithya as I witness. It is high time we supported the new blood, new force, and new endeavor,” he added.

Not only Hong Lim but also other Cambodian youths expressing their views through social media see the failures of the convicted Sam Rainsy in leading the movement.
