Phnom Penh (FN), August 13 – Cambodian Prime Minister of Cambodia expressed his pleasure to welcome and congratulate Japan's best footballer, Honda Keisuke, who volunteers to train Cambodian national football team for two years.
The premier regards Honda's dedication as a great contribution to promoting Cambodia's sport.
He also thanked Honda and the Japanese government for their continued support to Cambodia.
"Cambodia is pleased to welcome and applaud Japanese football legend Honda Keisuke, who has volunteered to be the coach for Football Federation of Cambodia (FCC) for free for a two-year term," the premier wrote on Facebook on Monday.
Keisuke Honda has been appointed Sunday morning as Cambodia national team general manager, according to an official announcement held under the presence of Sao Sokha, President of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), at Le Royal Hotel, Phnom Penh.
The newly appointed duty is to focus on a major regional trophy, the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018, which will take place from November 8 to December 15, 2018.
The 2018 ASEAN Football Confederation (AFF) has set Cambodia as group A, along with Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos.
The 32-year-old Japanese national has been a coach and a successful player for Italy, AC Milan Club, before moving to Mexico, Pachuca Club, and last played in Australia, Melbourne Victory Club.
Honda has just announced his retirement from the Japanese Blue Samurai after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, losing to Belgium.
