Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 8 - Within the first six months of 2018, Cambodian trade volume reached $14 billion, of which 5.8 billion was an export, an increase of 11%; and $ 8.2 billion import, an increase of 10.6% compared to the same period in 2017.
Ministry of Commerce spokesman Seang Thay said that Cambodia had exported to countries, such as the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and other countries, and the most exported sectors were garments and rice.
As Cambodia has been more stable ever than before, more foreign investors came to Cambodia. As manufacturing sector and product quality improved, trade volume boosts, said Seang Thay.
In first semester of 2018, Cambodia exported garment products worth of $4.1 billion, an increase of 11%; agricultural products $272 million, an increase of 8%; and other exports valued $1.3 billion, an increase of 14%, according to Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak.
In 2017, Cambodian exported 11.2 billion worth of rice, an increase of 9.2% compared to 2016 which was 10.2 billion.
Other Cambodian major export products include: textiles, clothing, shoes, bags, parts, electronic components, motorcycles, fisheries, rubber, processed wood, rice, cassava, corn, cashews, red beans, pepper, mangoes, palm oil and other agricultural commodities.
