Phnom Penh (FN), August 6 - A senior official at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said on Monday that flooding in Cambodia's Stung Treng, Kratie, Kampong Cham and Tbong Khmum this rainy season has affected 20,000 hectares of rice fields, of which 3,000 hectares were completely destroyed.
"The flood does not seriously harm farmers' rice fields. Eventhough the impact is higher, the damage is minimal", said Hean Vanhan, director-general of the General Department of Agriculture.
He said that the flood does not affect Cambodian rice exports to foreign countries.
The decline in rice export figures for the last three months is not caused by floods, but due to harvest, making the rice out of stock.
