Singapore (FN), August 2 – "Foreigners should not interfere in Cambodia's internal affairs", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn at the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Related Meetings in Singapore on 1 August 2018.

Wang Yi’s words uttered after the national elections in Cambodia just ended smoothly despite criticism from a number of countries alleging that it did not operate freely and fairly, Reuters wrote on Thursday.

Following the meeting between the two ministers on the sidelines of an ASEAN meeting, Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement that the Secretary of State and Chinese State Councilor Wang Yi congratulated to the successful election in Cambodia.

China and Cambodia Wednesday vowed to jointly uphold multilateralism to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Wang Yi said that China and Cambodia need to keep close high-level exchanges, jointly push forward the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and enhance cooperation in agricultural products, education, culture and other areas.

He added that both China and Cambodia, as best friends and close partners, have made special and grand arrangements to celebrate this year, which marks the 60th anniversary of China-Cambodia diplomatic ties.

Cambodian foreign affairs minister Prak Sokhon responded the July 29 elections were held orderly and transparent, and Cambodians voted for peace, stability and national development.

"Cambodia is willing to communicate with China closely, and join hands with China in maintaining multilateralism, international rules, and regional peace and stability," he said.

Minister Prak Sokhon appreciated China's resolute support over the years, hoping China will continue its valuable support to Cambodia's stability and development in the future, while his counterpart Wang reaffirmed the commitment to provide more support to Cambodia to maintain stability and further development.
